DUAL

The tuner CT8 and amplifier/turntable HS39 purchased in 1974.
All seemed to be intact, only the turntable was missing.
Test amplifier and tuner: it works, but the tuner stopped after two minutes.
Tuner open, checked the fuses, and yes one was broken; but why? OH what smell,
a C broke down at the main supply board (C1 in the schema).
Soldering out, cleanup and new, old, C mounted. It's working!
Original the HS39 contained turntable CT1214, so hunting for a turntable.
Found one at NVHR market the CT1225, possible to build it into the HS39 cabinet.
Unfortunately the needle was broken, a second-hand DMS200 found on ebay.
The original speakers were no longer there, searched for this in a secondhand store and found something that looked like it, from Siemens.

It didn't look very original when I bought it in 2003 via marktplaats; the cloth was cut off at the edges and finished with wooden slats, the cloth was damaged and the color faded. The original slats, above and below, were still good.
The radio itself works, but could be better; lateron.
So: disassemble, get rid off the old paint on the slats and paint it anew, and finally looking for a better cloth. That I found at Corrien Maas, homemade fabrics, thanks. With a firm hand the cloth is glued to the board with wood glue. Quite exciting to cut the canvas for p.e. the  front plate and the knobs, long live the wood glue against fraying.

The bakelite had become dull and the pointer on the tuning scale did not run well anymore.
The white decorative frame had largely disappeared.
After disassembling I made pictures of the movement of the pointer wires. Fortunately still in possession of old tuning wires, good thing I'm a saver. After a few hours of fiddling, the tuning pointer ran as usual.
Polished the bakelite and painted the white decorative list and look at the result.
Just a pity the paint of the tuning dial is peeling off, I'm looking for a better one.

The pointer stopped moving.
The old running gear twisted back together, both AM and FM.
Cleaned up a bit of course.

Bought on Queen's Day 2008 for €7.50
The drive belts had melted, new ones bought from Ben Harmsen .
Cleaning those melted strings was a lot of work, using a lot of cloths and old newspaper. In case you are going to do that too: think about your clothes, that mess will never come out!
The mechanism still works as usual!

The paint had peeled off, it has been in Uncle Andries' shed for years.
So then scraped off, sanded and varnished.
The power supply elco was broken, with holes in it. Replaced with an old one that was still working.
